Mount House School stands in fifty acres of playing fields, woodlands and gardens with lakes and streams. It is bordered on the west by over 1/2 mile of the River Tavy.
Pupils are prepared for Common Entrance and Scholarship to the leading Independent Schools. Most go on to Eton, Radley, Wellington College, Marlborough, Winchester, King's Bruton, Sherborne, King's Taunton and Downe House. All the main subjects are taught throughout the School including Latin, CDT, Music, Art and Physical Education.
The Hobbies and activities available include Canoeing, Sailing, Caving, Climbing, Letterboxing, Hillwalking, Camping, Fly-fishing, Judo, Archery, Philately, Chess, Subuteo, Table Tennis, Snooker, Squash and Badminton.
There is a robed RSCM choir which leads the Sunday Services and sings in churches, cathedrals and senior schools from time to time. Over half the school learn a musical instrument. There are various musical groups and orchestras. There is a recently built hall complete with stage, main music room and practice rooms. A well equipped C.D.T. Centre was opened in 1990, an Art School has been completed in 1992 and a new computer room in 1995.
All the main Sports are played and coached to a high standard. The fixture list includes schools in other parts of the country . There is a fine sports hall (built 1989) with facilities for a host of sports. The hall includes a full size tennis court and two squash courts. Professional coaching available.
Academic work is competitive.It is carefully monitored with regular Form Orders and Effort grades. There is a very happy atmosphere and particular attention is paid to manners.
A new purpose-built Pre-prep department for 3 to 7 year old boys and girls was opened in September 1996.
